A lot of the info on these "How to..." pages are from the American vacuum bagging and DLG guru Phil Barnes, and the rest is from my experience with building the Bart Bird DLG and Bart Bird 2 gliders. USA hasn't gone metric yet so most cloth are given in ounce pr. square inch. In Europe the term is grams pr square meter. 1,4 ounce pr. square inch is the same as 49 grams pr square meter. Look at Martin Godden's page to compare metric and old imperial values Where can you buy you materials for a DIY DLG glider? In fact there are many sources around Europe. Most of them are in Germany, but don't let that put you of. The two companies I mostly do business with write and speak English all right (Bacuplast and EMC-Vega). The German youth group "Abdrehfaktor" and "Abdrehfaktor-team" has their own page with an interesting page on making a special criss-cross carbon cloth - disser-cloth. In England Terry Adams and Simon Wittick has created a homepage about how they build their Spectre DLG glider, have a look and se how the do it in the Queens England. Martin Godden has done about the same thing but do it in another way. They even tell you where to find the high tech stuff INSIDE England. If you wish to see some of Phil's work visit http://www.polecataero.com/ - it is the web site for the maker of the XP3 and XP 4 wings. If you wish to see clips from or buy Phil's video on how to vacuum bag wings go to this site and place an order: http://www.paonline.com/hayman/video.htm If you want to know more about building SAL / DLG models, become a member of the Yahoo SAL glider forum and search EVERYTHING that Phil has written before you start asking question. You'll have a lot fewer questions when you are through reading his advice. Then you can go on and read Mark Drela's answers. If you still have questions I'd love to read them on the Yahoo SAL glider forum! Jay Decker has some picture advice on his homepage showing how to build fuselages and wings.
