Have a look at an XP 3 being thrown! Bart Bird DLG is my DLG / SAL glider from she spring 2003. It was inspired by lots of planes I saw on the internet and the techniques involved I learned mostly from Yahoos SAL-glider forums very knowing members and especially from the very comprehensive advices from Phil Barnes. Thank you Phil. The Bart Bird DLG 2 incorporates all the original Mark Drela Airfoils: The Bart Bird DLG (mk 1) oncoorporates only the root and tip airfoil: centre section - AG 455ct-02 tip - AG 455ct-02 transitioning to AG 47ct-02 These airfoils, and the AG 46ct-02 are used on the modified Super Gee I / Super Gee I and the Super Gee II along with various other DLG planes, the Bart Bird DLG wing is a little broader and instead of dihedral in the middle and two flapperons, I have used a flat middle center with one long flap, raised tips with ailerons (i.e. a three servo wing). The wing is placed on top of the fuselage so there is place for enough flap movement. See some more pictures of my Bart Bird DLG in the "photos" section of the Yahoo SAL glider forum. If you want to know more about how you can make your own DLG glider from scratch, check it out on these pages as well. If you wish to see some of Phil's work visit http://www.polecataero.com/ - it is the web site for the maker of the XP3 kit. If you wish to see clips from or buy Phil's video on how to vacuum bag wings go to this site and place an order: http://www.paonline.com/hayman/video.htm If you want to know more about building SAL / DLG models, become a member of the Yahoo SAL-glider forum and search EVERYTHING that Phil has written before you start asking question. You'll have a lot fewer questions when you are through reading his advice. Then you can go on and read Mark Drela's answers. If you still questions I'd love to read them on the Yahoo SAL-glider forum! Jay Decker has some picture advice on his homepage showing how to build fuselages and wings. |
