HQW 2,5/9, HQW 3,0/9

These two airfoils are a part of Helmuth Quabecks newest airfoil series that was published in his book “Design, Leistung und Dynamik von Segelflugmodellen” in 1994. They are a bit slower (greater camber) than the one Helmuth used on Master Piece and we used on Trinitus – HQW 2,0/8,0, but for thermal flight they are perfect. HQW 2,5/9 is the airfoil Phillipp Kolb used on his Skymax ´97 and HQW 3,0/9 (and HQW 3,0/8) is the airfoil used on Graupner’s Soarmaster and also on Graupner’s very new Soaring Star (News for spring 2001). They are all very good and are designed to use flaps. The flaps and aileron width shall be 22% of the wing chord. The Corrado 2000 from Schneider Modellbau in Germany incorporates another variant, the HQW 3/8 (not in the list below). The Corrado 2000 is a newer variant with the same fuse and plan form as the old Corrado. Only the airfoil is changed from SD 7037 to HQW 3/8.

Have a look at how I trim my Trinitus with HQW 2/8 - also links to other setup web sites.

There is another variant – HQW 2,5/8 - it is in part of the wing of the Pike Superior from Samba models. According to the first tests is should be better than the Pike plus! Helmuth has made a very nice homepage with coordinates of all his airfoils and some polars and other things: www.hq-modellflug.de/ .
