Even though I don’t think many considers this airfoil anymore I will not leave it out in the cold. A lot has been written about this when it saw light around the 1980 so I will not make another fairytale out of it. As told before it has been used on a vide variety of gliders, and for a variety of purposes. It was originally designed to get the low drag / high speed potential of the Eppler 180 and the lifting capabilities of the Eppler 211. Rolf Girsberg then made the RG 14 and RG 15. Before those he made the RG 8 and 12, but I’ll leave them out in the cold. The RG 14 has been used sparsely and in some modified versions. Just think of Nick Wright who became F3B World Champion in 1989 with his own bagged wings with a thinned version of the RG 14 – the RG 14a 1,4%/7,0% (and a modified leading edge). The RG 15 has though been used on numerous models in the plain form, and it must be one of the most used airfoils during the last 15-20 years. As told before, today many prefer the better high lift capabilities of the MH 32 for medium to heavy F3B-planes and the speed potential of the MH 32 for light F3J models. |
