The "VENTURE Mk II" - (plans, construction pictures and description at the bottom)

Gjermund has his own webpage with mostly the same info.

The concept is a cooperation between me and my club mate Tor Midtlund. We have been making the plans and the patterns for the castings together. Tor makes his winches a little different with regards to the brake, but otherwise they are alike. The aim for both of us was to make a winch with less parts and hence less time to assemble as compared to winches we have made in the past. I feel that we succeeded. We spent far more time on the drawing board (CAD program) this time and had a local foundry make us castings for all the major parts, including the undercarriage from a material they called "piston alloy". It is hard, light and takes a fairly good polish.
Although we don't have any plans to make winches for sale, we might make the plans and the raw castings available if anyone is interested.

Here is a supplemental picture taken before the painting and polishing, and a test file of the drawings. The drawing is not complete, just want to see if you can open this format (DXF). BE WARNED!! I am not a professional CAD nerd!! I draw what I need to see the different solutions and leave to my local hero with the metal lathe to figure out tolerances etc. Therefore my drawings are (even at a tretch of the imagination) basically a principal layout. Tor has made his own drawings, I would not be surprised if they are better than mine. The flexible coupling is obtained from the following address:

The picture below shows the bottom of the winch. We opted to do without the ON/OFF switch this time since it cannot make up for a faulty solenoid in any case. Instead we went the American way and fitted two solenoids. This is easier than fitting a safety switch, and I trust them not to burn out at the exact same time. The calibration could be fitted inside the undercarriage, but for now I think we will put them at the battery end of the cable. This makes for easy installation and adjustment (don't have to flip the winch over to work on it). In the picture one can also see the square holes the legs fit into. The black plastic nut makes aligning the winch easy. It is hard to see in the first pictures of the box, but everything needed to use the winch, including the turnaround pulley and tie down straps fits inside the yellow Stanley 26" tool box. The complete box weighs 24Kg(down 30% from my first winches).
More drawings will follow. I just need to make them presentable:-)

Hello!
Here is what I believe should be a complete set of drawings for the winch.
If you miss anything let me know. There are some details around putting it together that could be valuable for
those who want to build one. If anyone shows interest I will be glad to share my experiences.
